Mental health is something people take for granted. It’s seems as if it’s a right to be mentally healthy just like it’s a right to breathe and eat and see. It is something we don’t even think about – it is simply just the way it is. We have good relationships with friends and family, we are able to work, we are able to enjoy our lives. Every now and then we might get the Monday blues or get stressed out, but in general, life is pretty swell. But there are some of us out there who get the Monday blues and can’t get out of it. We get the everyday blues. There are some of us that get so stressed; we have no control over our emotions, our feelings, our thoughts, our actions. We can’t seem to establish healthy relationships, we can’t get out of bed some mornings, the prospect of facing work is frightening, interacting socially can cause anxiety attacks – something takes over our mind that is so powerful and destructive you consider self harm. Mental health disorders include depression, bipolar, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc. A stigma gets attached to people who suffer from poor mental health. People can be deemed weak or making excuses and have been regarded with fear, anger, criticism and hatred. In most cases of poor mental health, there is chemical imbalance in the brain that causes it. Usually a hereditary gene, it passes from one generation to another. There is now medication that can be taken to treat mental illnesses and therapy is recommended to unearth any personal issues you may have. There are many creative ways to express your feelings.
